Minister Blackburn delivers more than $1 million in research and development investment tax credits to Atlantic Hydrogen Inc.

Fredericton, New Brunswick, August 26, 2009…  The Honourable Jean-Pierre Blackburn, Minister of National Revenue and Minister of State (Agriculture and Agri-Food), met today with Mr. David Wagner, President and CEO of Atlantic Hydrogen Inc., and personally delivered $1,102,000 in scientific research and experimental development (SR&ED) investment tax credits earned by the company.
During a tour of the company’s facility in Fredericton, Minister Blackburn spoke about the importance of the SR&ED program as the largest source of federal government support for industrial research and development.
“The Government is supporting Canadian businesses like Atlantic Hydrogen Inc. that are conducting research and development,” said Minister Blackburn. “These operations are crucial to the long-term growth of our economy by providing sustainable jobs in our communities and helping improve the quality of life for all Canadians.”
Atlantic Hydrogen Inc. has developed a patented plasma technology—CarbonSaver™—that removes some of the carbon from natural gas before combustion. This pure carbon has a number of high-value industrial applications, and the resulting hydrogen-rich natural gas burns with lower carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions.
“Finding the money to conduct research can be a challenge, particularly for operations in the pre-revenue stage,” said Mr. Wagner. “The SR&ED program helps us maintain our research and development activities as we travel the road to the commercialization of our technology. We have taken advantage of the SR&ED program since we started, and will continue to do so for as long as we qualify.”
The SR&ED program is a federal tax incentive program administered by the Canada Revenue Agency, which encourages Canadian businesses of all sizes, and in all sectors, to conduct research and development in Canada. The SR&ED program gives claimants cash refunds and/or tax credits for their expenditures on eligible work done in Canada.
